Perkins: Giuliani supports marriage amendment
Giuliani did not mention the amendment or the issue of gay marriage during his address to the Values Voters Summit, but that position could win him favor with some social conservatives who view the former mayor warily.
Perkins said that was not enough to assuage his concerns about Giuliani, but “it was nice to hear.”

Durbin and Others Revive DREAM Act Amnesty In New Bill
Although senators have, thus far, passed on tacking the DREAM Act amnesty on as an amendment to several other bills, majority leadership is now pushing for a vote on the DREAM Act as a stand-alone measure. That bill is expected to be S. 2205, introduced yesterday (no text yet available) by Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and cosponsored by two long-tenured Republicans. It is imperative that NumbersUSA members contact their senators to stave off any future activity on the DREAM Act.

Catholics Deny Communion on Political Grounds
So very sad!
Loving Saint Anthony you always reached out in compassion to those who had lost their faith. You were especially concerned because they had lost access to the healing words of Jesus found in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and in the nourishing presence of Jesus in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
Intercede for (name) who has stopped practicing his/her faith. Reawaken in his/her heart a love for our Church and the sacraments, and enkindle in his/her heart a sense of forgiveness for the ways he/she might have been hurt by members of the Church who fell short of the teaching of Christ.
Finally, St. Anthony, help me to respond to my own call to conversion so that I might become an example of someone who has found great peace in the arms of Christ. May the joy I experience as a Catholic be an invitation to those who are lost to come home again to the Church which we love. Amen.
[snip]Conservative Catholics are once again up in arms against the Sisters, this time because members went to Most Holy Redeemer Church in the Castro on the Sunday morning of the Castro Street Fair to partake in one of the world’s stranger religious rituals: the eating of the body of Jesus Christ (their alleged crucified savior) and the drinking of his blood in the form of a wafer of bread and a sip of grape juice (or are they still using wine?). Archbishop Niederauer, who was saying the Mass, noticed the unusually dressed persons, but gave them Communion anyway. After all, when in Rome.I’m not a Catholic anymore, but as I recall, that’s what priests are supposed to do. Nuns and priests in the schools I attended never said, “we don’t give Communion to gay guys dressed as nuns.”
So very sad!
At least it’s not the bad old days when the Archbishop would have just ordered the Sisters burned at the stake.

MHR-San Francisco Archbishop giving Communion to 'nuns' overblown
Jesuit Father Donal Godfrey, one of the Mass concelebrants, said the way the two men were dressed was "disrespectful to religious sisters," but he said he felt "it probably wasn't their intention (to offend.) They knelt in all the right places. They stood in all the right places. Except for the way they were dressed, they weren't doing anything disrespectful."
"I thought it was disrespectful for somebody to go to another church with the intention of filming it," he added, "without asking the pastor permission to do that and, second, with the intention of using that in a hostile way, without having a conversation first with the pastor. On the face of it, they were out to get the archbishop."
Asked about reaction he had received, Archbishop Niederauer expressed concern about the impact of Web logs, or blogs.
"The blogosphere is a kind of dangerous, endless recess in a global schoolyard," he said, "where the bullies with the biggest bullhorns can shout whatever they want."

Political Notebook: SF archbishop in hot water
Matt Dorsey, an openly gay member of the church's parish council, dismissed the criticisms against the Sisters receiving the Eucharist as having little to do with Catholicism.
"This organization is a hard right fundamentalist group that does not represent mainstream Catholics, and frankly, does not espouse any teaching of Jesus Christ I am aware of," said Dorsey. "The same people object to Communion being given to Nancy Pelosi , John Kerry, and Rudy Giuliani. The truth is this isn't about religion; it is about the culture war and their efforts to drag the archbishop into it."
