Dana enters Lisbon debate

In a statement tonight, former MEP Dana Rosemary Scallon entered the Lisbon debate saying 'we must not be afraid to vote No to Lisbon'.

She added: 'The people must know the truth, that the guarantees are worthless and that the EU will have primacy over Ireland's Constitution.
'Lisbon is not about tidying up the democratic process - it is about tying up the democratic process.

Ms Scallon, who also campained to become President in 1997, said that the Lisbon Treaty will undermine Ireland's sovereignty and political independence and profoundly weaken Ireland's position in Europe.

The guarantees were Ireland’s condition for holding a new vote in the autumn.

It occurred to me, that we now need to offer stronger prayer and sacrifice for this week - before Mr. Cowen meets with the rest of the EU officials. This prayer work maybe more important than the actual vote? I think so. Again, as I posted yesterday, the pressure is on...what will 'they' do next? We need to kick it up.

"Brian Cowen is being urged to present a plan for reviving the treaty at the EU summit in Brussels this week, but he knows that if a second referendum were to result in failure it would bring down not only the treaty but his Government as well."

"EU leaders united over the weekend to insist that Mr Cowen had to show how the treaty could be saved, possibly with a rerun of the vote next year and extra guarantees for Ireland. Signs are emerging that some EU countries would consider forging ahead in a “two-speed Europe”, leaving Ireland and others behind."
