I have been waiting patiently to hear Rush L. weigh in on the current life issue affecting this country right now-Terri.
Yesterday, Rush finally paid enough attention to the matter (albeit he did admit not knowing all the details about Michael's present situation or how Terri arrived in her present condition) by devoting almost the entire show with his "open-line Friday" audience calls to Terri's tube removal. MAR 18, 2005 (VIS) - In the Holy See Press Office this morning, Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos, prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, presented the Pope's Letter to Priests for Holy Thursday 2005. Also present at the press conference were Archbishop Csaba Ternyak and Msgr. Giovanni Carru, respectively secretary and under-secretary of the congregation. The eleven-page document, dated March 13, has been published in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Polish. Cardinal Castrillon affirmed that this year's Letter has a special resonance because it was signed in "a place marked by the Cross of Christ," Rome's Gemelli Hospital. "In the silence of his suffering," said the cardinal, "the Pope, with the example of a life given 'to the end', repeats the Pauline affirmation: 'we preach Christ crucified, ... the power of God and the wisdom of God,' loving all men with Christ's charity and completing in his own body what is lacking in the passion of the one Savior and Redeemer," these last words a reference to Colossians 1, 24. Almighty God, thank you so much for the life of Terri Schaivo. Already she has saved the life of at least one person who was going to be starved and dehydrated. The doctor was pushing the family to terminate his life. But, his dear sibling was already so mad about what Terri has been put through these many years, that this caring person absolutely stood his or her ground. The brother has now recovered. This person praises Terri for saving the brother's life. God, she is very unique and dear to us. She has exposed the evil at work in our world in this right to die movement. Congress Works to Outlaw 132nd Trimester Abortions; Michael Schiavo's Lawyers to Appeal

"The Senate has a narrowly focused bill that deals only with the planned abortion of Terri Schiavo, allowing her standing in federal court, which would immediately stay a Florida court's ruling which would allow Planned Parenthood's Boca Raton office to perform the controversial abortion procedure, now scheduled for March 18.

The House, however, passed a more broadly defined bill on Wednesday night. In it, "persons" — defined as "any born individual who is presently outside the womb and in at least the 50th trimester of life" — are given the right to take their case to federal court after the state court route has been exhausted. The House bill does not grant an automatic stay for Schiavo despite support from House leaders like the ultra-conservative Rep. Tom DeLay, the House Majority Leader.
But even with an agreement between the Senate and House, sources told The Jawa Report on Thursday that Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) has "dug in" against passage of the Senate bill by unanimous consent. He is a well-known pro-choice advocate and in a recent press statement said that,

"Michael Schiavo has a right to terminate his wife's life. His wife's body belongs to him. What he does with Terri's body is nobody elses business."

Wyden then added in a press-conference on the steps of Capital Hill,
"My personal view is that 132nd trimester abortions are wrong. However, I believe that such decisions are
best left to a couple and their doctor."

Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay today (3-17-05 ) released the following statement: "It's unconscionable that Senate Democrats led by Senators Harry Reid and Ron Wyden would not allow a vote to move forward on critical legislation the House passed last night to save and protect Terri Schiavo's life. House Republicans knew we had a moral obligation to act and we did just that last night. As Terri Schiavo lays helpless in Florida, one day away from the unthinkable and unforgivable, the Senate Democrats refused to join Republicans to act on her behalf."

Priestly formation must lead to understanding of ‘spiritual fatherhood’, says bishop

The question is finally raised-“Have we adopted a false sense of privacy by which we do not confront, discipline or visit with our spiritual children?” he asked. “Do we abandon our spiritual children by defining our call to the priesthood as a 9-to-5 profession, with an attitude of ‘Don't call me after hours?’”

I have a vocation as a wife and mother. A priest's vocation is well defined by his parish as he is the "father" of a parish family. I know that because of my vocation I am to accept ALL moments of "service"-walking the floor waiting for a teen to come home, attending to a sick child, preparing and feeding my family--this is MY vocation. I can not at a mere whim decide that I need a vacation nor can I decide that I shall not meet the needs of my family. I am ready 24 hours a day to take care of my family.

Many priests have succumb to this thinking. I pray that all priests will accept the graces and prayers that Catholics are offering around the country in churches and chapels before the Blessed Sacrament. That they will be refreshed and renewed by these prayers and sacrifice. We continue to pray and offer our support as always.

This comment by the Boston Globe gives me suspicion:

In an interview before his speech, McCarrick said he will argue that politicians who disagree with church teachings should be allowed to speak at Catholic colleges but should not receive honorary degrees.

Should be allowed to still speak at Catholic colleges? Really? Our children (at the expense of parent's hard earned money to pay the high tutition at these colleges) should have their ears and minds subjected to their speeches? At the risk of having their own souls touched by these people?

Congressman David Weldon (R-FL), a medical doctor, plans to introduce legislation titled the Incapacitated Person's Legal Protection Act (Terri's Law), which will hopefully help save Terri Schiavo's life. The legislation would give Terri and others in similar situations the same constitutional protection of due process as death row inmates. Already this week, attorneys for Terri's parents have filed six different motions to help save their daughter, all of which are now on appeal. Dr. Weldon's legislation would allow Terri to have her own counsel who can argue her case, a right given to any criminal in the United States. Terri is, of course, not a criminal but a woman fighting for her life. As Terri's fight intensifies, I cannot be more frank on the fate of this poor woman if her husband has his way. If Terri's feeding tubes are removed, she will face a slow death through starvation, which can take anywhere from 7 to 30 days. Terri's parents, as do Congressman Weldon and I, truly believe Terri is alive and deserves to continue living.

On February 28, 2005, the parents of Terri Schiavo were informed, through their Attorney David Gibbs, III that Judge George Greer of Pinellas-Pasco's Sixth Judicial Circuit has denied, without access to hearing, motions filed by Terri Schiavo's immediate family for-

• Updated neurological evaluations based on new MRI testing protocols;
• A motion to compel the deposition of Michael Schiavo;
• A petition for extraordinary authority to provide Terri Schiavo with updated rehabilitative protocols;
• A petition for divorce, citing open adultery on the part of Terri Schiavo's husband and guardian;
• An objection to the guardian's annual guardianship plan
• A motion to remove Michael Schiavo as guardian, citing his failure to comply with Florida Law mandated guardianship requirements. This motion dates back to November of 2002, but the court has never ruled on it.

Judge Greer has stated that he will only consider motions from Terri's family as they relate to the death process, which include but are not limited to a motion to allow Terri Schiavo to die at home instead of a Hospice facility, a motion for a Florida burial, and a motion allowing her immediate family uninterrupted access to her throughout the death process.

The Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation finds the actions of Judge Greer reprehensible and a clear denial of the due process rights afforded to Terri Schiavo under Federal and Florida law.

With new medical diagnosis protocols and new levels of rehabilitation protocols, Terri Schiavo's adjudicated condition of 'persistent vegetative state' is no longer equitable and any responsible jurist would eagerly recognize and accommodate more thorough means of determining the disabled woman's true condition – a condition that remains in great dispute.

Additionally, the Foundation finds the behavior of Judge Greer an absolute obstruction of due process for Terri Schiavo by his refusal to hold the guardian accountable for violation of Florida's guardian laws. The guardian has spent Terri Schiavo's medical fund on representing his own legal interests, has denied her necessary medical services, lives in open adultery with his girlfriend and their two children, has petitioned the courts to cremate Terri immediately upon her death and has repeatedly and flagrantly failed to comply with Florida Statutes that mandate the terms of guardianship. Judge Greer couldn't be bothered with those details so long as Terri Schiavo's death is a guaranteed outcome.

Why is it that admitted criminals are protected to every reasonable measure of law, but our disabled and vulnerable citizens are discarded by the courts as unworthy lives?

Dear Governor Bush,

You have sworn to uphold the Florida Constitution which reads

All natural persons, female and male alike, are equal before the law and have inalienable rights, among which are the right to enjoy and defend life and liberty, to pursue happiness ... No person shall be deprived of any right because of race, religion, national origin, or physical disability.

You have the authority as the top elected official of Florida to save Terri. I have no doubt you and/or your legal staff are aware of every piece of information available about Terri's case. The abuses, conflicts of interest, suppressed evidence, etc. are legion and yet you take no action. If Terri's feeding tube is removed you will have enabled it by your silence.

Why have you not:

• ordered a criminal investigation into the night of the incident that left Terri disabled and the evidence of "trauma" over an extended period of time that indicates possible spousal abuse
• ordered the department of social services to begin legal action to remove Michael as a guardian for failing to fulfill the duties of guardianship under Florida state law
• brought charges against Michael for negligence/abuse of a disabled individual under Florida law defending the rights of the handicapped
• used your influence in the legislature to get a better law defending the rights of those who become disabled without leaving an advanced medical directive

We hear statements that you have done everything under the law, but that is simply not true. The executive branch is responsible for all these investigations that have NEVER been done. You are the top official in this branch and have the ultimate authority to order all these things.

God may have placed you in your position of authority at this time in history for the one purpose of impeding the inexorible push in this country toward the murder of the innocent handicapped/disabled. Please don't go down in history as the man who could have saved Terri Schiavo, but didn't out of concern for your political career.

As President of the Catholic Media Coalition I am urging all of our affiliates to offer Masses, rosaries, and devotions that you might have the courage to stand up for the innocent. Think how many little ones will speak up for you on the day of judgment if you take action for them now. Which is better: to hear the Lord say, "Well done, good and faithful servant" or "Whatever you did NOT do for the least of my little ones, you did NOT do for me?"

Catholic polarization reached new peak in 2004 election, speaker says
On the 2004 Presidential Election-"A "more ominous" element of the election-year divisions, said William A. Dinges, a professor of religious studies at The Catholic University of America and a member of the university's Life Cycle Institute, was the "vitriolic and escalating" rhetoric and "uncivil behavior, characterized by confrontation, harassment and attempts at intimidation."

What does this say!? Did you see this where you live? Did I miss something? Or now Pres. Bush supporters-Right Wing-Christians are considered terrorists again? Hmmm? My own pastor after 9-11 said that "we should be careful of fundamentalist Catholics that hide behind the magisterium "-he inferred that "they" could be considered terrorists too. This statement was made the Sunday after--after 9-11. I don't know what he said after the actual election.

The above statement was just recently made "addressing a national gathering of about 100 diocesan social action leaders." What doesn't sit right here is the fact that this guy and others like him are still holding on to their anger. And I have to say that this is not good for their bodies. Too much anger will take over you and then all those social programs that "they"control and administer will become hampered or stifled. People don't work well under that kind of stress. No that's not good at all.

Small groups and individual Catholics? Really? "Google" these terms: "Catholic", "Kerry", & "Reception". Looks like there are 76,600 possible sites that one can review to decide the number of groups and individuals that were "harassing" and "intimidating" fellow Catholics nationwide.

Comments on Hollywood & "Constantine"

I can't emphasize the dire ramifications of this film for our children. I wrote about this because of Keanu Reeves' screen persona and "following". There are millions of young people that flocked to view his movies -"The Matrix"series. These same young people would like to assume that this movie is of similar plot.

This is a brief quote from an actress Tilda Swinton about her character "Gabriel" in the upcoming movie "Constantine" with Keanu Reeves. The New York Times interview is part of the media push on this movie.

A very interesting "read" on the positions of opinion at a Jesuit Magazine in Rome-"La Civiltà Cattolica". Sandro Magister at Chiesa Online has written a piece on the current changes of opinion of the Iraqi situation at this magazine. Now that the Iraqi Election is over and they have shown the world that they are overcoming their fear and oppression that has been so prevalent in their country, we pray that they will continue to be blessed with courage and wisdom to continue their battle for freedom and democracy.

The Cardinal Mindszenty Foundation. Very interesting information provided here. Look at their CMF Conference speakers for 2005. The Cardinal's life gives me pause to be quite thankful. Thankful that he was able to carry his cross with such courage, love, and determination. What a holy man he was. These are the men and women of faith that we should all honor by living our faith in every moment. No matter what it might be. No matter how heavy our cross becomes. We have such a rich heritage of faithful servants in the history of the church. I pray that he will intercede for me so that I might continue to carry my cross.

Today's readings (Zephaniah 2:3; 3:12-13 Psalm 146:6-101 Corinthians 1:26-31Matthew 5:1-12) express this quite well and hopefully many of us will hear, accept, and internalize the message.

And a grouping here. The first picture is BEAUTIFUL! Look closer at the image. The Pope looks so peaceful and there seems to be a joy that exudes from his smile. I find great peace in this picture.

What gifts & blessings must have been bestowed upon those young children next to him and to all those that were present for his address. This would be my favorite picture and image of him from his entire pontificate.

Christmas renamed Winter Holidays in Shelby County, Alabama

It has just come to my attention that my local county school calendar for last year-2004-2005 and now our proposed 2005-2006 was renamed from "Christmas Holidays" to the most explicit AND secular term-"Winter Holidays". Now I HAVE REALLY SEEN IT ALL! How did I miss this major change and more to the point how did the parents and people of this very, very, Christian, conservative, and very Republican county miss this as well? There was nothing in the papers. I saw no announcement. I don't think I heard any objections in the media at all. I wonder if any other parent noticed this. Yes, this is how it works--slowly creeps into our lives! We just have to remove CHRIST totally from everything! So very sad. We have a few more years in this system and I can only pray for those parents and students we leave behind.

Call your bishops and plead with them to take a stand against Terri's death sentence that could be meted out today.
We pray not. Do not lose FAITH OR HOPE.
We will do all we can for LIFE and remember not to lose hope -for whatever happens GOD WILL'S will be done.
HE is much bigger than Michael, Felos, Greer, and ALL judges!

A Gay Priest Speaks Out -the Vatican, homosexuals & holy orders--penned by a "gay priest" under a pseudonym-- "Rev. Gerard Thomas is a Catholic priest in active ministry in the United States."

This information came "out"before the Australian Bishop made comment. I don't know how they can so openly dissent the Catholic Church?
So they get to ask the Vatican to drop celibacy? So they can ask all they want. They will continue to do so until they get the answer they want. Oops, I forgot there's a clear agenda and it's only pushing harder and harder. "They" think that they can "make" the church adjust to their wishes now and wait for the church to catch up later. This is THE PLAN FOLKS! They have been using the mantra "shortage of priests" around the world. They can make this a reality to strengthen their cause. They're not going to stop unless they are STOPPED. Would this behavior be of the Holy Spirit? I wonder.

The Catholic League announced today that the Vatican is being sued by The Coalition for Jewish Concerns to push the Vatican to open the archives as they are looking for documents that show that the Catholic Church sheltered Jewish children during WWII. They actually have a gay marketing tourism plan in place. Gosh how could anybody read a magazine or newspaper in Philly without being inundated? Betsy most be rolling in her grave!

A plan has been in place for years. What will you do in the pew? Are you aware that your tithing has gone to the contribution of this "plan". Some of us have "awakened" to these developments. So sad for the dissident nuns around the world today, for one of their own has been denied use of a Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan. Sister Jeannine Gramick was to be a guest speaker at a reception in her honor after the showing of a film documentary about her life. She is crying fowl again! You can find the article over here. As we are all starting a new year and resolutions, these groups are planning their year as well. I don't know if these groups will stop "pushing" so hard. I believe they are like children wanting acceptance for all that they do no matter if it does harm either spiritually or physically.

Here's a short list of the groups planning their effort:"Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, which focuses its efforts on depictions of gays in the media; Log Cabin Republicans; National Stonewall Democrats; the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force; and others. Their list of priorities is a call to arms in the culture wars. Marriage, obviously, is the most controversial item on the agenda."

This is where prayer has to take place and as always the practice of Corporal and Spiritual Acts of Mercy.

This is a "note" to the Democrats from Fr. Frank Pavone on the selection of a new Democratic Party Chairman. He cuts to the chase. Thank goodness. And to whom is he speaking? Well how many Catholics are a part of Congress? They are in great prayer need to become holy servants of GOD and not of their positions.
