Cardinal Mahony 2008 Chat Online at RECongress
You can read these questions and answers...I'm not going to comment, but during this season of Lent, offer up my frustration and offer prayer. See below and the other posts to follow.
Laurie Allen: Why do some clerics in the church have a problem with the faithful practicing yoga? If the intention is to calm our minds and bodies - can we not see this as a way to better "ground" ourselves in God. Over the 25 years I have practiced it, I find my faith has only grown...
Cardinal Mahony: Yoga is a deep meditation process, and if we keep our focus on our living and merciful love, then yoga works for anyone. Meditation in any form always deepens our love with God.
Teri: Is there high hope for married priests? What is that status on having the option?
Cardinal Mahony: Teri: At this time, the Pope is not moving towards married priests for the Latin Catholic Church. Recall that the Eastern Catholic Church has had married priests for 2,000 years.
Andrew: Stores used to be closed on Sundays. Now for many Sunday has become part of the work week. And like many in this younger generation, my child don't see any special importance of Sunday and of going to church. How can I help "sell" church to my teen?
Cardinal Mahony: Andrew: You are so right--Sunday has been robbed of its importance and meaning, usually for commercial purposes. It really helps when your parish has a special group for teens--such as Life Teen. So many parishes have Youth Masses, and other events for Catholic youth. Encourage that path in your own parish.
Alexis: Is their anything against the Catholic church being more fun? I mean the priest talks and kids don't pay attention so couldn't we sing and dance, and make it more like gospel churches do, so kids will want to participate? I was just wondering if that was against our faith?
Cardinal Mahony: Alexis: Sounds good to me! Our parishes need to offer a variety of liturgies which appeal to different age groups and to different likes. Youth Masses with groups such as Life Teen are really helpful!
Sue: Why does the Catholic Church in the U.S. not walk with the Catholic Church in Rome? Are we not all one? What steps do you see as necessary for a more harmonious relationship to take place -- one that acknowledges the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and tries to follow closely with what id means to be a disciple of Christ. Is it materialism, a consumerist capitalistic society, a "I want what I want and I want it now" attitude? How can the individual Catholic align their footsteps with the master, so that one day we may come to that eternal banquet prepared for all?
Cardinal Mahony: Sue: I sure don't see the disconnect you reference. My experience is that the Catholic Church in the USA is very dynamic, but very faithful to the Holy Father and to the Universal Church. Having had the joy of visiting the Church in so many countries around the world, I am in awe at how vibrant the Church is here. Our involvement of lay people in the Church is a great grace, and our Popes have noted that often.
Hugh Menton: What do you consider the critical questions that a parish community should ask itself before proceeding with efforts to build a new church?
Cardinal Mahony: Hugh: Obviously, you need to "build the Catholic Community" before building the actual structure. A holy, vibrant Catholic Community will make a new Church come alive--but not the other way around.
Congress Attendee: Cardinal, Please give me your impression of the recent book in your name.
Cardinal Mahony: That book is wild fiction!! I have never read anything more bizarre in my life! Don't waste your money on it!!
And let us not overlook the "Sacred Space" where one could go to HIM in Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel or 'walk-n-pray' the labyrinth too:
'"Sacred Space," located on the third level of the convention center, will offer Eucharistic adoration in the chapel, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a labyrinth, meditative music and art. The next phase of the St. John Bible Project --- the first handwritten, hand-illuminated Bible commissioned since the development of the printing press --- will also be displayed at Sacred Space."

Prayers for MS & AL...ahead of storms!
Prayers Against Storms - This prayer is quite powerful. A dear friend and I were on the phone praying this prayer just as a horrible 'straight line wind'/or tornado came through our area. It damaged areas around her home...not even a mile away from her home. Her home was completely untouched. Many in the area lost beautiful old oak trees and other downed trees. In the area that received the most damage, it took well over a year to complete the needed repairs to make it 'presentable' and usable.
Thank and praise YOU FATHER, thank and praise YOU JESUS, thank and praise HOLY SPIRIT - for our safety in the past and for this prayer for use in the future!

RFID & VeriChip News
(Professor Kevin Warwick)
Senior Life: Chipping away at our individual rightsRegarding the second stage of research, he said he got implanted with a more complex chip, which interfaced directly with his nervous system, in March 2002. The experiment was successful, as the signals produced by the chip were detailed enough for a robot arm developed by his colleague Peter Kyberd to mimic the action of his arm.
Warwick even went on to implant a simpler chip into the body of his wife. He wanted to try telepathy, using Internet to communicate the signal from afar.
The experiment was successful and resulted in the first purely electronic communication experiment between the nervous systems of two human beings. Though his family found it “crazy” initially, he was determined to use the technology for helping the disabled, he said.
VeriChip Corporation Protects More Than One Million Infants in 2007
"Xmark's infant protection systems are designed to prevent infant abductions and inadvertent child mismatching in hospitals. The main component of the systems is a wearable RFID tag that is assigned to child and mother following birth. Monitors positioned throughout the hospital detect the integrity of the tags and location of the child. If a newborn is removed from the ward, if the tag is lifted from the baby's skin or if the ankle strap is compromised, the system immediately triggers an alarm, alerting hospital security to the situation."

Prayers of reparation- Fatima Prayers
O my God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee. I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love Thee.
Most Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences whereby He is offended.
And through the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of Thee the conversion of poor sinners.
O my Jesus, I offer this for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of Hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of Thy mercy.

Politics and the pulpit
Considering the source:
"INTRODUCTION: Pope Benedict XVI's recently announced visit to the United States in April is a reminder of the role anti-Catholicism has played in presidential politics.
Notre Dame Professor Richard Garnett traces the political history of anti-Catholicism, the effect of then-presidential hopeful John F. Kennedy's famous 1960 speech to Baptist ministers, and the role of candidates' religious beliefs in today's campaign."

"Thankfully, we live in a time when no one feels the need to take up arms against Benedict's invading armies. We should always be on guard, though, against the temptation to demonize, dismiss or distort the beliefs and aspirations of those whose faith seems foreign to us."
TX "Super Highway" - TxDOT Packed Meetings - Need for another Townhall Meeting
Waller County officials are calling for the Texas Department of Transportation to hold another public meeting in their county on a proposed “superhighway,” after a Jan. 22 meeting was so packed that some people couldn’t squeeze into the meeting hall.
Gov. Rick Perry first proposed the TTC six years ago. If completed as much as 50 years from now, it would roughly parallel interstate highways with up to a quarter-mile-wide stretch of toll roads, rail lines, pipelines and utility lines. Cost of the project has been estimated at approaching $200 billion, and at 4,000 miles or so it would be the biggest construction project ever in Texas.
Thousands of people have turned out for a series of public meetings, including a large crowd last Monday in Bellville. The Texas Transportation Commission’s plan outlines 4,000 miles of superhighway corridors that crisscross the state. Four of those corridors have been identified as “priority corridors” to be constructed first, including the I-69 portion.
