Conservatives seem deliriously drunk with their cartoon picture of Obama, to whom is glibly attributed every pathology in the book. Yes, there were ambiguities about Obama's birth certificate that have never been satisfactorily resolved. And the embargo on Obama's educational records remains troubling. But I am still waiting for hard evidence about the host of other charges that are continually being hammered against him -- from his alleged fidelity to the crypto-tactics of Chicago leftist Saul Alinsky to the questions raised by right-wingers about the production of Obama's two memoirs. Out of respect for the presidency, conservatives need to put up or shut up about these issues.

Oh, that we could put up or shut up...that assumes that the answers would be there to do so...as the questions obviously linger not only for conservatives, but also for Ms. Paglia. The burden of proof continues to lie at Pres. Obama's feet.

She can't skate free from this little piece, as she herself uses the following phrases - "never been satisfactorily resolved", "remains troubling" and "still waiting for hard evidence". I too feel the same way Ms. Paglia! And it is out of respect for the presidency that conservatives will work to find and present the truth...for the truth will set you AND us free!

Here's the deal:

The technique of homologous recombination pioneered by Capecchi and Smithies was initially done in mammalian cell culture, and proved to be a powerful tool in that system; however, the real impact of the work was only felt when Evans learned how to isolate embryonic stem cells from mice. Capecchi and Smithies went on to perform the homologous recombination procedure on these cells, which were extracted from early mouse embryos and could be easily grown in Petri dishes. When placed into other mouse embryos, they merged with them, creating chimaeras. In mice where the transformed cells populated the sperm-producing or egg-producing cells of the gonads, the progeny were transgenic.

What is it about President Obama that makes the right wing so crazy, so uncharitable, so frothing-at-the-mouth unreasonable? I asked another priest who ventured racism was part of the answer. I am not so sure.

This crowd of conservatives does not own the Catholic Church. They certainly do not own Notre Dame University. They are about to find out that they do not own Dr. Glendon either. The rest of us Catholics, however, must not let the public square think that they do. Our voices must be raised to say that we are thrilled such a distinguished Catholic university is considered such a part of the life of the nation that our President will be coming to address its graduates. We are thrilled that he will be sharing the stage with one of our Church’s and nation’s finest scholars and diplomats. And, we should be thrilled that the right wing commentariat has again adopted its smug "I thank Thee, Lord, that I am not like other men" stance. The Master condemned many things when he trod the earth, but none more than the smug judgmentalism of the Pharisees. Alas, like the poor, the Pharisees will be with us always. You will be able to find them on Graduation Day protesting outside the gates at Notre Dame.

Outrage Over Obama's Appearance at Notre Dame: Who Are the Political Victims? (The USCCB can either lead or GET OUTTA THE WAY! The laity has been carrying this issue for many years and they have had enough! Again--Lead or get outta the way!)

It's striking that the protest is spearheaded by grass-roots Catholics, as opposed to the Roman Catholic hierarchy. It's in-the-pews conservatives who are pressuring U.S. bishops to speak out against an alleged injustice; typically, it's the other way around, with bishops imploring their flock to action.
