Erie, Pa - Bishop Trautman 'stirring it up'!

Bishop criticizes translation
Proposed rewording of Catholic Mass draws defiance

In a rare show of defiance, a Roman Catholic bishop is using increasingly fiery language to spark a grass-roots revolt against a new Vatican-ordered translation of the Mass.

Bishop Donald Trautman of Erie, Pa., chairman of the U.S. bishops' Committee on the Liturgy, has used several essays and speeches to denounce the proposed translations, which he calls "not acceptable."

[snip]

"He's really being a true churchman," Father Reese said. "He's putting the good of the church over his own advance or standing in the Vatican or with other bishops."

Catholic teachers 'must take public vow'

This is strange...why would you send this around to parishes for comment? Maybe to float a balloon, or placate someone? This would be like me asking to take a vote on the 10 commandments. Give me a break. Or unless this is a way for the media to leak this info to everybody before it gets to the parishes. If momma and daddy are in charge they don't take a vote or ask comments from the children about how they're going to discipline them. Talk about misguided compassion. Cardinal Pell should say this is what we're going to do and stand by it! Don't ask for ANY COMMENTS! Craziness.

The Catholic archdiocese of Sydney wants its school leaders to publicly commit to a vow of fidelity by adhering to church teaching on homosexuality, birth control and women's ordination.

The vow would apply to its 167 principals, its deputy principals and religious education coordinators and would be a first for the Australian church, Fairfax newspapers report.

The Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal George Pell, is behind the move to extend the oath - which is a requirement of church law for bishops, priests and heads of seminaries - to all senior educational leaders.

The requirement is contained in a draft pastoral plan circulated to all parishes of the Sydney archdiocese for comment.

Columbariums BANNED in Florida

'Veil tip' to Michael Brown at Spirit Daily, the 'Drudge Report' of Catholic News...

Wiser heads are now prevailing...
Bishops don't want responsibility of caring for 'burial grounds'

For a combination of earthly and theological reasons, the bishops have banned construction of new columbaria -- or cremation vaults -- at the state's Catholic churches. While funeral home directors like Dave Woodward, Holly Hill, say cremation is a popular trend in the funeral industry, Archbishop John C. Favalora of Miami said he worries about the legal ramifications of local churches taking on cemetery-like responsibilities.

"The care and tending of burial grounds is not a parish's primary mission, and its grounds are not set aside in perpetuity for that purpose," said the archbishop in an open letter last month. In a sentimental note, Favalora recognized that parish columbaria are "well-intentioned attempts to return to the ancient practice of having church members buried in the church yards."

But Catholic leaders also fear the parish columbaria will give the wrong impression that the church favors cremation over burials.

Ahhh, too late...remember New Jersey's -Bishop Paul Bootkoski of the Metuchen Diocese?
"This is what's happening today. This is the reality. It is the wave of the future."
Sounds like 'the wave' stopped outside the state of Florida! Maybe, the bishops of Florida can 'make waves' at the next USCCB General Assembly next month June 20-22. One can hope...and pray. Thank you Archbishop Favalora! God Bless YOU! His contact info here.

I'm Confused! Catholic Crematorium?

Catholic parishes yield to cremation trend

"This is what's happening today. This is the reality. It is the wave of the future," said Bishop Paul Bootkoski of the Metuchen Diocese, which is building the crematory. "We're going along with what our Catholic population is looking for."

So, now dioceses are allowing columbariums and crematoriums? The Cathedral of another diocese has recently built a columbarium on their property and I understand that the diocese has allowed (& promoted-?)the building of Columbariums. I can't understand why this is being allowed. If we're teaching that cremation should not be encouraged then why are 'we' building them on church properties?

Arkansas parish tackles 'Catholic Extreme Makeover' on priest's home

"I am hopeful I can walk again, but I am more hopeful that God will restore in me what he wants to," Father Ogbuji told the Arkansas Catholic, Little Rock diocesan newspaper. "Even if he doesn't, I will still be the same person."Life is not just about physical appearances. It's much more than that," he added.

"Life is more about the image of God. It's about patience and understanding and accepting the will of God even if it conflicts with your own personal plans. Life is about service (even) if you are only able to smile at people. Even if I can't use my legs and limbs, I can smile and help people who are going through the same things."

Something to be proud of...NOT!

Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC)Establishes Clergy Counseling Fund

A forerunner of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, the Clergy Consultation Service was a network of more than 1,400 ministers and rabbis who, despite the risks of public censure and criminal prosecution, helped thousands of women obtain safe abortions in the years before the 1973 Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade making abortion legal. At that time, as many as 1 million women underwent dangerous illegal back-alley or self-induced abortions each year, without safety standards and often in unsanitary and dangerous conditions.

Spiritual Warfare - Fr. Euteneuer before Pentecost

The Advocate vs. The Accuser

In a few months I will publish a book on exorcism and deliverance by which I hope to educate the Church Militant on the reality of spiritual evil and the truth of the Church’s power against it. On this weekend where our Church celebrates Pentecost, the great Feast of the Holy Spirit, I offer an excerpt from this upcoming book to highlight the influence of the Holy Spirit in defending our cause against the accusing spirit of the devil. If we are to fight for the salvation of souls, we must know our enemy and experience God’s love as the protective shield against all his evil.

[snip]

As we celebrate the feast of Pentecost with our Church, let us make a profound act of faith in the Holy Spirit, that, no matter how evil our times may be, God will never abandon to the power of evil those who call upon Him. Let us call upon the Holy Spirit to protect us and our loved ones and to renew the face of the earth!

We will all need to learn these lessons. Thank you, Fr. Euteneuer, for your courage and wisdom and for sharing it with the warriors under your charge. And I too, pray that the HOLY SPIRIT will bless all of us with the gifts needed to assist GOD OUR FATHER in these battles.

GOD BLESS YOU FR. EUTENEUER!

VeriChip - The Future

VeriChip: Ready for a breakout?

Yet to be approved by insurance companies as a covered procedure, the concept is still relatively new for use in people but based on the ongoing push by the company and its placement of chip readers in the hands of doctors, insurance company approval is strictly a matter of time.

And it will be a matter of time. Again, why would this company offer to implant for free the chip in the arm of a emergency personnel and their families?--"free to emergency services personnel and their families in tribute to Emergency Medical Services Week."
Why? How does this help them and their families?

Device holds key to medical history

That hasn't stopped VeriChip from pushing its product. Firefighters, police officers and emergency medical workers, and their families, can have the chip implanted for free and maintain the service for life through Wellington Regional. They must sign up by Friday at the hospital's emergency services area.

Tranchant lifted weights a few hours after his implant - working on his triceps, no less. He's hoping his initiative will inspire others in law enforcement and the fire service to do the same.

Again, what is the purpose?

Republicans, Democrats strike immigration deal with White House
'DEAL STRUCK'...."an immigration overhaul that would grant quick legal status to millions of illegal immigrants already in the U.S. and fortify the border."
The plan would create a temporary worker program to bring new arrivals to the U.S. A separate program would cover agricultural workers. New high-tech enforcement measures also would be instituted to verify that workers are here legally.

[snip]

The key breakthrough came when negotiators struck a bargain on a so-called "point system" that would for the first time prioritize immigrants' education and skill level over family connections in deciding how to award green cards.

The draft bill "gives a path out of the shadows and toward legal status for those who are currently here" illegally, said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

Catholic Priest Invites
Gang of 18 To Leave Church

FRONT ROYAL, VA — The Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, STL, president of Human Life International, (HLI) today said “Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) and seventeen other members of Congress who describe themselves as Catholic not only are ignorant of their faith but also need a civics lesson.”

Father Euteneuer was responding to their rebuke of Pope Benedict XVI in a press release from DeLauro’s office which stated that the Pope’s recent comments that Catholic politicians risk excommunication and should not receive Communion by saying, “Such notions offend the very nature of the American experiment and do a great disservice to the centuries of good work the church has done.”

Father Euteneuer said, “It is an embarrassment that a Catholic, much less a member of Congress should make such an absurd statement. Even if this statement were true, the Holy Father answers to a Higher Power than Rep. DeLauro and the Gang of 18.”

“The truth is,” Father Euteneuer said, “nothing threatens the American experiment more than the legal but unjust killing of human beings by abortion which stands in stark contrast to the very first right enumerated by our Declaration of Independence: The Right to Life. The humanity of the unborn child is no longer even debated. It is a scientific fact. Abortion is murder, and murder is against the law. Like Dred Scott before it, which violated certain citizens’ Right to Liberty, Roe v. Wade is bad, dishonest law and will eventually fall.”

“Excommunication is a pastoral and medicinal penalty, not a political one. The Pope is well within his free expression of religion guaranteed by the US Constitution—and his pastoral duty—to warn any Catholic when their eternal salvation is jeopardized by their actions” Father Euteneuer said. “This is what the Catholic Church teaches and what Catholics believe. If the Gang of 18 believes otherwise, honesty and integrity requires they find another church that tells them what they want to hear. If they have that much of a problem being Catholic, no one is forcing them to stay. We certainly don’t need their hypocrisy.”

CBC TV Offends Catholics with Show Mocking Sacraments in “The Altar Boy Gang”

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is coming under fire for a new show that depicts the Catholic Mass as a background for drug and gang-related activities, in what the Catholic Civil Rights League has called blasphemy of the sacred rituals of Catholicism.

Titled The Altar Boy Gang, the show features a group of Montreal altar servers who use their role in the parish to cover up their involvement in the drug trade. Two 30-minute pilot episodes of the show were aired at nine p.m. on Friday.

CBC’s program description at CBC.ca says the show is about “Teenage boys who use their “vocation” as altar boys to be bad.”

The Communion host is shown as “munchable snack food, possible poker chips and a repository for drops of LSD,” the CCRL stated in press release May 15. “Drug-laced hosts are left in the confessional for pick-up.”

PM unveils early intervention measures -Mothers and their unborn babies are to be targeted for help as part of the latest drive to prevent social exclusion.

A £7.5m government trial of the US initiative - aimed at using early intervention tactics to prevent vulnerable youngsters from falling into difficulty and becoming involved in anti-social behaviour - was launched earlier this month.

The pilots are in place in 10 areas nationwide, including London's Tower Hamlets and Manchester.

Under the scheme, those considered most at risk receive weekly visits from health workers or nurses from when the mother is 16 to 28 weeks pregnant until the child is two.

They will offer mothers advice on diet, exercise, relationships and parenting skills.

Oh, so we can monitor them and offer advice? Is this plan for all mothers? And what measurement are they using to determine what mother/child is at risk?

This prevents social exclusion? Really?
And doesn't this 'initiative' scream that a child is not just a fetus at 16 weeks?!

Greensburg, Kansas - Prayers HEARD!

Prayers were louder than the tornado, says Kansas parish secretary

During the storm she crouched down and closed her eyes. She could hear things batting against the house and before long she could feel pieces of her home's new insulation in her hair. Because of the wind she could hardly keep holding the blanket she had grabbed and she held on desperately to her oxygen tank, thinking that if she went, it was going with her.

"I didn't know what was louder, the tornado or me praying," she said, pointing out that she prayed whatever came to mind and certainly said a few Hail Marys "over and over" to make sure God heard her.

"He must have, because I'm here," she was quick to add.

Without any hesitation, she said her faith was strengthened by the tornado because she is convinced she would not have survived without praying.

Catholic schools purge

John Haldane, professor of philosophy at St Andrew’s University, made his dramatic claim at the annual conference of the Catholic Headteachers’ Association of Scotland last week. He said an increasing emphasis on secularism among intellectuals would “trickle” through society over the next 15 years.

“Some of the most powerful forces are really quite hostile to Catholic education,” he said. Professor Haldane argued that there was already a “quite determined effort to purge the public space” of Catholic education, because it was “incompatible with a new ideal of public virtue”.

Cardinal Cardinal Janis Pujats in Lativa needs our prayers and support!

‘We cannot keep silence. In a month’s time, there will be calls to tolerate homosexuality in the context of another attempt to organize a pride march on June 3’, Cardinal Pujats writes.

The cardinal has urged the Latvian government to stop what he calls ‘an action inspired from abroad, in which a handful of people with dubious morality tries to force the government to accept their perverted views’. ‘No international document on human rights views homosexuality as a sign of minority to be protected’, he stressed. Cardinal Pujats noted that if a gay parade was held in his country, it would be ‘a real attack on the national morality, religion and family values’, adding that people ‘will not watch it in silence’.

Married Catholic priest -- exception or indication of a change?

My prayers continue for all...

More than 70 men have used the 27-year-old provision to become Catholic priests in the U.S. Lowe, who is 68 and retired in 2002 after 32 years as an Episcopal priest in Newton, Mass., is the first in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Mahony said people should view the ordination as an exception and not an indication the church may change its requirements and bring in more married priests.

Many of the parishioners weren't listening. Worried about the shortage of priests, they viewed the ordination as a symbol.

"I think it's opening a door for married priests in the future," said Michelle Paschen of Camarillo. "And yes, I think priests should be married."

John Blankenship, 68, of Camarillo went further.

"I think it's great that we're moving forward," he said. "Hopefully that will eventually lead to women being priests."

Pope Says He Suppports Excommunication

Maybe the US Catholic politicians will hear this...a prayer for a deep, penetrating and complete conversion is needed. Please pray for all of them - all those politicians that continue to support abortion legislation.

Pope Benedict XVI said Wednesday he supports excommunication for politicians who backed Mexico City's decision to legalize abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Church doctrine calls for automatic excommunication for anyone procuring an abortion. "It's nothing new, it's normal,'' Benedict said during an airborne news conference aboard the plane carrying him to Brazil on his first pilgrimage to Latin America.

Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi later told reporters that the politicians who voted for abortion had automatically excommunicated themselves by their actions.

Mexican church officials have said that doctors and nurses who performed abortions as well as lawmakers who supported the legalization would be excommunicated. Church teaching also says any woman who get an abortion faces automatic excommunication, meaning the Vatican doesn't have to issue a formal excommunication order.

Emails must have “DHS-2006-0030” in the subject: line.

Homeland Security's Own Privacy Panel Declines to Endorse License Rules

While the committee's 12 final recommendations are mostly predictable (such as restricting what the ID can be used for and making sure that the machine-readable portion of any REAL ID should not be easily readable by unauthorized persons), the importance of Homeland Security's own advisory board explicitly saying it won't endorse Real ID as workable or appropriate shouldn't be underestimated.

Pope Benedict XVI's Trip to Brazil

Last week he asked us for prayers. He is guaranteed those prayers...prayers of protection and prayer support for all that he says and does while away from the Vatican!

And today he entrusts his trip to Brazil to Our Blessed Mother-BENEDICT XVI ENTRUSTS TO THE VIRGIN HIS TRIP TO BRAZIL in the month of May-her month!

The month of May "is for many Christian communities the Marian month par excellence. As such it has, over the course of the centuries, become one of the forms of devotion most dear to people and has always been adopted by pastors as an opportunity for preaching, catechesis and community prayer."

"Marian devotion underwent a profound renewal. And the month of May, which partly coincides with Easter time, is an appropriate moment to present the figure of Mary as the Mother who accompanied the community of disciples gathered in joint prayer while they awaited the Holy Spirit. This month, then, can be an occasion to return to the faith of the early Church and, together with Mary, to understand that today too our mission is to announce and bear witness with courage and joy to Christ, crucified and risen, the hope of humanity.

"To the Holy Virgin, Mother of the Church," the Pope added, "I wish to entrust the apostolic trip I will make to Brazil from May 9 to 14. Like my venerated predecessors Paul VI and John Paul II, I will preside at the opening of a General Conference of the Episcopate of Latin America and the Caribbean," the fifth such meeting "which will take place next Sunday at the great national shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, in the city of that name."

This, said the Pope, "is my first pastoral visit to Latin America and I am preparing myself spiritually to meet the ... subcontinent where almost half the world's Catholics live, many of them young. For this reason it has been called 'the continent of hope:' a hope that touches not only the Church, but all America and the word entire."

Pope Benedict called upon the faithful to pray to Mary Most Holy "for this apostolic pilgrimage and, in particular, for the Fifth General Conference of the Episcopate of Latin America and the Caribbean, so that all Christians of those regions may feel themselves as disciples and missionaries of Christ, Way, Truth and Life."

"There are many different challenges facing us at the present moment, that is why it is important for Christians to be formed to become a 'ferment' of goodness and a 'light' of sanctity in our world."

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with with confidence, I fly to you, O virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
